Are you a High School student preparing to study Vocal Performance or Musical Theatre in college or a summer program? Now is the time to start preparing your audition!
Boston Lyric Opera and VOICES Boston are teaming up to host a workshop for High School singers who wish to gain important skills and tips to ace their college-audition or summer program audition experience. During this two-day workshop, participants will work with acclaimed Boston Lyric Opera faculty on repertoire, resume, theatrical movement techniques, physicality, and characterization. Meet the Instructors!
Patricia Au
Known for her vivacious energy, Dr Patricia Au is versatile as a collaborative pianist, educator, and music director. She has held positions at New England Conservatory, and Boston University Tanglewood Institute, as well as conducted masterclasses at Bucknell University and New World School of the Arts. As music director, she has led productions at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, OperaHub, and Boston Opera Collaborative. A frequent interpreter of contemporary music, she has workshopped with living composers, including Sofia Gubaidulina and John Harbison. Dr. Au currently serves as Resident Teaching Artist and Education Pianist with Boston Lyric Opera where she has a passion introducing young people to opera as a storytelling art. She received her DMA in Collaborative Piano from New England Conservatory of Music and in January 2023, she was appointed Assistant Professor at Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Vera Savage
Vera Savage, D.M.A., a celebrated and sought-after mezzo-soprano, recently lauded by @opera.news for her portrayal of handmaid New Ofglen in Boston Lyric Opera’s highly acclaimed production of The Handmaid’s Tale, has performed with numerous chorales as a featured soloist, opera companies, festivals, and orchestras across the United States, including @whitesnakeprojects, @american_lyric_theater, @commchorale, @opera.saratoga, @florentineopera, @spoletofestivalusa, @lynchburgopera, and Seiji Ozawa Hall At @tanglewoodmusicfestival. Vera has maintained an active teaching career for nearly 20 years and currently serves on faculty at Boston’s @berkleecollege, where she is Associate Professor of Voice. As an established crossover artist herself, Vera’s students range from contemporary musical theatre belters to students of opera and art song.
