Play by Tony Kushner

Brundibár by Hans Krása

Translation by Tony Kushner

But the Giraffe and Brundibar Synopsis:

Join the adventure with Brundibár! Brundibár is a children’s opera about two brave kids on a mission to save their mother’s life. With animals by their side, they take on the tyrant Brundibár to find milk. But The Giraffe by Tony Kushner tells the same story in a new way, seen through the eyes of a little girl who uncovers the bravery of those who fought against the horrors of the Holocaust. In 1943, the score of Brundibár was smuggled into Terezin concentration camp. It was a statement of hope and resilience by the children of the camp, many of whom were later killed at Auschwitz. We are honored to be able to perform this meaningful piece, and invite members of the community to join us as we share their important message.

The Gray Bird Synopsis:

Three little hedgehogs – Hazel, Prickles, and Spike – emerge from hibernation after a long and harsh winter. As they venture out into their world, they embark on a journey to find the bird with the most beautiful song. Mama Hedgehog tells them about the wonders of The Gray Bird, but Spike has some other ideas…

Along the way, they bump into chickadees, roosters, and tree-toads, and learn about their songs and stories too. Through their adventures, the hedgehogs discover the value of preserving the stories and voices of all creatures big and small in their world. The hedgehogs are amazed by the beauty of The Gray Bird’s song and realize the importance of their mission to help preserve the melody. In the end, they successfully carry on the melody of The Gray Bird and fulfill their important role in their land!

Join us on June 10th and 11th, 2023 for the matinee performances to see their adventure!
